Report: Authority head says Netflix looking for partners in Russia
MOSCOW, Apr 20 (PRIME) -- Netflix, a U.S. on-demand Internet streaming media provider, is holding consultations with Russian companies, business daily Vedomosti reported late ùò Wednesday quoting Alexander Zharov, head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media.
“It proves that they are probably looking for partners,” Zharov said without disclosing potential partners.
Official talks with Netflix have stuck. “Quite a lot of time has passed since the last letter from Netflix on their intention to respect law…at least, their actions show they’re going to work in the Russian Federation,” the official said.
“They got registered as tax residents of Russia. I think they would closely watch the progress of the bill on the regulation of ÎÒÒ services, online cinemas, which will be studied in the second reading tomorrow.”
To become law, bills must be approved by the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house in three readings, and by the Federation Council, the lower house, in one reading before being signed by the president.
